Metal bands like Iron Maiden and Dio embraced their childhood fantasies of fighting monsters and slaying fire-breathing dragons and brought that into their music and onto their stages. And it was good. It was very, very silly, but it was good. Why, you ask? Because nothing is better at bringing a person out of a drum-solo induced coma better than the appearance of an eighteen-foot-tall zombie onstage. It's something you don't see anymore anywhere. Today, there's a gaping wound just begging to be healed by hydras shooting lasers out of their eyes. Is it really too much to ask for?
